The ProcessProducing hand carved architectural stone is a highly creative process. Yet it also calls for special care and precision in order to assure a good fit for each piece of finished stone within its final environment in the building structure. In this segment we will show you how we work. We will outline the steps involved all the way from developing ideas, to the completed installation. A First Look at the Project.A meeting with the homeowner, or their design professional, will help us gain an understanding of the project, and to get a feeling for the particular tastes of the owner. If asked, we’ll make helpful suggestions on how stone can most effectively fit into the project as a whole, and the types of stone to consider. From Concept to Drawings. We’ll take the initial ideas for the project, and translate them into artistic renderings (drawings). Along with these, we’ll present our price quotation for producing the stonework. Fine Tuning the Designs. In looking at the renderings, there will be ample opportunity for revision, as we fine-tune the concepts. |

The Quarry.Upon approval, we’ll move to the next stage, with our computer design (CAD) specialist producing shop drawings. These are the working drawings for the quarry. Relationships that De Santana has nurtured over many years allow for a close alliance with fine stone-producers in Italy, Mexico and other places. Once the stone with the appropriate qualities has been located and removed from the ground, skilled carvers go to work, with simple artistry doing what they have done so well for years, and often, for generations. |
